Rolfing
Rolfing é uma forma de medicina alternativa criada por Ida Rolf (1896–1979) com a denominação Integração Estrutural.[1][2] Consiste geralmente numa série de dez sessões de manipulação física com as mãos denominada de "receita". Baseia-se nas ideias de Rolf sobre os benefícios do alinhamento do campo gravitacional da Terra com um suposto "campo de energia" do corpo humano.[3][4] Os praticantes combinam terapia manual superficial e profunda e estímulos de movimento.[5] O processo é por vezes doloroso.[6]
Os princípios do rolfing contrariam os fundamentos da medicina[7] e não existe qualquer evidência de que seja eficaz no tratamento de qualquer condição de saúde.[8] É considerado uma pseudociência[9] e tem sido caracterizado como charlatanismo.[10][11] Desconhece-se a sua segurança.[8][12]

Before we explore medical reactions to therapeutic innovations in this era, we must stop to consider the meaning of 'alternative medicine' in this context. Often scholars use the term to denote systems of healing that are philosophically as well as therapeutically distinct from regular medicine: homeopathy, reflexology, rolfing, macrobiotics, and spiritual healing, to name a few, embody interpretations of health, illness, and healing that are not only different from, but also at odds with conventional medical opinion.
