Mesoclemmys é um gênero de cágado da família Chelidae.
Nomenclatura e taxonomia
O gênero foi descrito por John Edward Gray, em 1873, para a espécie gibba.[5] Em 1958, ele foi reduzido a subgênero do Phrynops.[6] Em 2001, o gênero Phrynops foi revisado e dividido em: Phrynops, Rhinemys, Mesoclemmys, Batrachemys, Bufocephala e Ranacephala.[7] No entanto, em 2005, Batrachemys, Bufocephala e Ranacephala foram sinonimizados com o Mesoclemmys.[8]
